Twelve Days of Anime #12 – Beware the Unspeakable Bar Thing!

Apparently it has become tradition among anime bloggers to share their favourite moments over the past year of anime. I wasn’t really involved with it last year, but decided to try it this year, while also being fashionably late and a day behind everyone else.

There was something wonderful about Haiyore! Nyaruko-san, and it wasn’t necessarily the humour, but rather the ridiculously over the top way that Asumi Kana managed to deliver her lines as Nyaruko. The way she never stopped talking, firing off random comments, thoughts, and general rubbish, all at about one thousand miles an hour, regardless of whatever else was happening around her. The way she continued to lead Mahiro around by the nose, while also using her job as his protector to buy all those delicious anime, manga and other goods that she couldn’t get hold of before. The over the top nature of Nyaruko truly carried the series and made her one of the most memorable characters of the year for me.

She was memorable for me too but not in a good way. Supposedly that show was a lot more enjoyable if you could keep up with even a fraction of the references, but unfortunately I could not.

Thats a shame, the series really got going by the second episode, although it was all much the same with loads of references and slapstick, so if you didnt like Nyaruko or the humour I cant see you enjoying the series.

Another simple and boring reply for you coming up. Kuuko, and to some minor degree, that reverse trap boy whose name I can’t remember, were the only reasons I bothered watching the first half of this show. By then Nyaruko, Mahiru and everyone else annoyed me so much I lost interest. Not even Kuuko’s undeniable charm and noble quest for true love can influence me to pick up the 2nd season. Fareweel dear Kuuko, you’ll never be forgotten. Your spectacular performance was enough to get you a best co-star nomination in my Yuri Awards Ceremony. Well done.
