Sexual Harassment in anime – Comedy, Carnivalesque, and Socially Constructed


Sexual Harassment or more broadly comedy involving sex jokes, references and general ‘dirty humor’, is something that is hardly unique to anime, or Japanese television, and appears in a wide variety of media around the world. Sex jokes and general dirty humor adds an element of the carnivalesque to many series, helping to break up the action or drama by injecting an element of madness into the plot. There is also a certain ‘Bacchic’ quality to such jokes, with characters in anime finding themselves in situations that would get anyone in the real world sent to jail. While most people will not necessarily want to do exactly what these characters do, there is something in their actions that many people may wish for. The idea that you could potentially do something as audacious as many anime characters, wondering perhaps what it would be like, although not necessarily wishing to actually do it knowing the consequences. High School DxD – There is more to it than simple fanservice


I must admit that I was partly looking forward to watching High School DxD – while ecchi series can become tiresome, I have a soft spot for a good bit of ecchi comedy, and High School DxD managed to deliver it in spades. It was a show with some interesting characters, nice fight scenes and some great pieces of comedy. It was a show that came across as a combination of Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou and Sora no Otoshimono – we had the supernatural harem, along with a shamelessly perverted male protagonist who is willing to do anything to acquire his own harem. High School DxD First Impressions – Angles, Demons and a naked Red-Head


Well High School DxD kicked off and made it perfectly clear what this show was going to be about, breasts, lots and lots of breasts, with some demons and fallen angles mixed in of course. To be fair, there is a little more to this show than simple breasts, there is comedy, and a potentially interesting little story, but the major draw will always be the fanservice. And I really enjoyed the first episode, as a show it knows exactly what it is about and delivers some wonderful entertainment; more importantly, the male lead gets killed not once, but twice within the first episode.
